ATP Flight School has announced the return of a 100-hour multi-engine program as part of its Airline Career Pilot Program. This nine-month program is designed for students with no prior flight experience and is priced at $123,995, which is the same base tuition as the standard zero-time program.

Program Details

The new program will provide students with a total of 285 hours of flight time, including 101 hours in multi-engine aircraft, 134 hours in single-engine aircraft, and 50 hours in simulators. This is compared to the standard zero-time program, which includes 282 hours of flight time with 25 hours in multi-engine aircraft, 204 hours in single-engine aircraft, and 53 hours in simulators.

According to ATP Vice President of Marketing Michael Arnold, the company has been a leader in multi-engine training for over 40 years and is committed to preparing students for successful airline pilot careers. The program is initially being offered at locations in Atlanta, Daytona Beach, Florida, and Denton, Texas, with plans to expand to additional locations.

Comparison to Earlier Program

The new program is different from an earlier version offered by ATP, which had a different progression. The earlier program required students to earn a single-engine commercial certificate before completing multi-engine add-ons. In contrast, the new program allows zero-time students to earn a single-engine private certificate and then transition to the Piper Seminole for a private multi-engine add-on.

The new program's sequence continues with the twin engine for instrument rating, commercial multi-engine certificate, and MEI and CFII training, before returning to single-engine aircraft for single-engine commercial and flight instructor add-ons.

Costs and Fees

While the $123,995 base tuition figure is the same as the standard zero-time program, it is not the only cost associated with the program. ATP estimates that FAA examiner and knowledge-test fees will add around $14,000 to the total cost for zero-time students. Additionally, required third-party applications and training location premiums of up to $5,000 may also be incurred.
