Cessna 150 and Police Helicopter Involved in Fatal Collision
A Cessna 150 pilot was killed in a collision with a Pennsylvania State Police helicopter during a training exercise at Carlisle Airport

A fatal accident occurred at Carlisle Airport in central Pennsylvania when a Cessna 150 struck a Pennsylvania State Police Bell 407 helicopter. The pilot of the Cessna 150 was killed in the collision, while two state police crew members aboard the helicopter survived and were hospitalized.
According to Pennsylvania State Police, the helicopter was hovering above a grassy area next to the runway when the Cessna 150 approached for landing. The airplane veered to the right near the runway and struck the rear of the helicopter, causing significant damage.
## Accident Details The collision resulted in the helicopter losing its rotor blades and tail boom before coming down on its side. The two crew members, Cpl. Bryce Corman and Trooper Jason Mills, were initially trapped inside the aircraft but managed to escape with minor injuries.
Acting Commissioner Col. George Bivens stated that the pilots of the helicopter would not have been able to see the approaching airplane, suggesting a potential issue with visibility or communication. The Cessna 150 broke into multiple pieces upon impact and authorities believe the pilot was the only occupant of the airplane.
## Investigation and Response The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) responded to the airport on the night of the accident, and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) arrived overnight to investigate the collision. Investigators have obtained video and photographs from the area and plan to review communications on the airport's Common Traffic Advisory Frequency (CTAF) as part of their investigation.
Officials have not yet determined the cause of the accident, and an investigation is currently underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the collision. Hospital officials reported that both crew members of the helicopter are in stable condition with minor injuries.
## Aftermath Pennsylvania Gov. Josh Shapiro commented on the accident, stating that the outcome could have been much worse. The incident highlights the importance of safe operating practices and communication between aircraft during training exercises and other airport operations.
The collision serves as a reminder of the risks associated with aviation and the need for thorough investigations to determine the cause of such accidents and implement measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
