Air Canada Teases Five New Routes
Air Canada is running a contest for travelers to guess five new international destinations for Summer 2027, offering prizes worth $44,000.

Air Canada has launched a contest, offering $44,000 in prizes for travelers who can guess five new international destinations. The airline will formally announce its Summer 2027 network expansion on September 3.
The contest began on September 1. Entries close on September 4 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time. Five winners will be selected in a random draw on September 8. Each winner receives two roundtrip economy tickets to any destination served by Air Canada, a prize valued at approximately $8,800 per pair.
Entries can be submitted online, by mail, or through social media. The airline is also running temporary "Where to Next?" activations at Toronto's Union Station and Montreal's Eaton Center where guesses can be submitted.
Clues Hint at Network Expansion
Air Canada released a 46-second teaser video filled with what it calls hidden Easter eggs. The airline confirms the clues are specifically tied to its Summer 2027 network announcement. This makes the video more than a general marketing exercise.
Aviation enthusiasts have been scrutinizing the footage. One clear image appears to show a water bottle marked with a Swiss flag or symbol. This has prompted speculation about a new Swiss destination. Air Canada already serves Geneva and Zurich, so a clue for Switzerland could indicate service to a new airport like Basel.
Another sequence features a map showing both Europe and Africa. This could point toward Nigeria. Air Canada announced in August it had begun the regulatory process to establish service to Lagos in 2027. However, the airline has not confirmed if Lagos is one of the five mystery destinations featured in the contest.
Speculated Destinations Emerge
Based on stickers shown in the video, several airports are being discussed as educated guesses. These include Doha Hamad International, Paris Charles De Gaulle, Hong Kong International, and Miami International. None are confirmed.
Doha would be a new destination for Air Canada. Paris is already served, so a clue there might indicate an additional route or airport development. Hong Kong would strengthen the airline's Asian network.
Italian aviation fans have suggested Palermo could be a candidate. This speculation is circulating among Air Canada's Italian followers on social media. The airline has been expanding in Italy, launching Montreal to Catania, Sicily service in Summer 2026.
Aircraft Enable New Routes
The timing of the expansion is linked to Air Canada's growing fleet capabilities. The airline has taken delivery of its first Airbus A321XLR and plans to operate 30. Airbus states the aircraft has a range of up to 4,700 nautical miles.
This aircraft allows Air Canada to connect Montreal and Toronto with thinner international markets that may not support a larger widebody. Current schedules show the A321XLR operating or planned on several transatlantic routes from Montreal.
The A321XLR's range makes destinations like Basel a strategic fit. Larger opportunities, such as Doha or Hong Kong, would likely require widebody aircraft. The teaser's ambiguity allows for multiple interpretations. The final answer comes on September 3.
