Emirates has confirmed the return of its Airbus A380 to the Dubai International Airport to Beijing Capital Airport route for a limited period in October. The service will run from October 4 to October 31.

The A380 will replace the Boeing 777-300ER on this 3,162-nautical-mile great circle route, offering increased passenger capacity at the expense of freight space. This deployment is part of Emirates’ broader plan to operate the double-decker to 20 Asia-Pacific airports by the end of 2026.

Historical data from OAG shows Emirates first flew the A380 to Beijing in August 2010, with daily operations continuing until 2020 when the pandemic disrupted services. The aircraft was briefly reintroduced on the route in late 2023 before being withdrawn again.

During the October period, Emirates has scheduled 700 nonstop A380 departures from Dubai to Beijing, up from 673 in the same timeframe in 2025. This represents a 4% increase in services, averaging 25 daily departures.

The growth in A380 flights to Beijing is part of a wider trend, with Asia-bound services (excluding the Middle East) increasing by 18% year-over-year. This contrasts with declines of 20% in double-decker operations to Australia and New Zealand over the same period.

The increase is driven by multiple factors, including the launch of daily A380 flights to Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport starting October 25, the return of the aircraft to Guangzhou from February 2026, and expanded superjumbo operations to Shanghai Pudong.

Emirates remains a major sixth-freedom carrier, with booking data from the 12 months to June 2026 showing that approximately 275,000 round-trip passengers traveling between Beijing and Dubai connected to another flight at the hub. Of these connecting passengers, Europe was the top regional destination, followed closely by Africa, then the Middle East and South America.

The airline’s top origin-destination market via Dubai was Beijing to Cairo. Other prominent connecting routes included São Paulo, Conakry, Nairobi, Harare, London Heathrow, Warsaw, Johannesburg, Algiers, St. Petersburg, Luanda, Madrid, Basra, Mauritius, and Dar es Salaam.

Simple Flying reported the development, citing Aeroroutes and OAG data as sources for the flight schedules and historical operations.
