BermudAir has leased an Embraer E190F freighter. The aircraft is leased from Regional One, which has placed five firm orders for the type.

"Cargo is a natural next step for us," said Adam Scott, Founder & CEO of BermudAir. The airline states the E190F will allow it to use its existing network to move express cargo, supporting local businesses and e-commerce across the islands it serves.

Fleet and network strategy

BermudAir's passenger fleet currently comprises Embraer E175 and E190 aircraft serving ten destinations. The E190F will operate as a dedicated freighter alongside that network.

George Mamangakis, Chief Investment Officer of lessor Regional One, said the company has long believed in the E190F's ability to fill a unique segment of the freight market. He called BermudAir's growth strategy thoughtful.

The E-Freighter programme milestone

Arjan Meijer, President and CEO of Embraer Commercial Aviation, said BermudAir's selection marks an important milestone for the E-Freighter program as it enters service in North America and the Caribbean for the first time. He stated the aircraft was designed to address a unique gap in the cargo market.

The E-Freighter was developed to fill the gap between turboprops and larger narrowbodies and to replace older, less efficient freighter models. Embraer claims it offers significant advantages over other aircraft types.

Aircraft capabilities and market role

Combining its lower and upper decks, the E190F offers more than 100 m³ of cargo volume and up to 13.5 tons of payload. Embraer says this enables cost-efficient transport of express cargo to and from island communities often underserved by dedicated freight service.

For BermudAir, the addition supports a broader strategy of diversifying revenue while continuing to invest in its passenger experience. The airline launched in 2023.

The source notes that Cargojet currently offers scheduled freighter service from Newark to Bermuda five days a week, at times using Boeing 737 freighters under ACMI arrangements. BermudAir's move into dedicated cargo operations creates a new competitor in this market.
