Air Canada to launch A321XLR daytripper flights to London
Air Canada will deploy its new Airbus A321XLR on a daytime 'daytripper' service between Toronto and London Heathrow from June 1, 2027, adding a fifth daily

Air Canada will launch a new daytime transatlantic service between Toronto and London using its Airbus A321XLR aircraft starting June 1, 2027. The airline plans to add up to 33 weekly flights on the city pair, increasing its total daily London operations from four to five.
This 'daytripper' service is designed as an alternative to traditional overnight flights. According to the source, Simple Flying, the flight will depart Toronto early in the morning and arrive in London late in the evening. The return leg will leave London mid-morning for a mid-afternoon arrival back in Toronto.
Network and Connection Strategy
The new schedule is aimed at providing more connection options through Air Canada's Toronto hub. The mid-morning departure from London is timed to allow arriving passengers to connect onward to the carrier's network across Canada, the United States, the Caribbean, and Central and South America with just one stop.
Travelers transiting to the United States on this service will also benefit from US Customs and Border Preclearance facilities in Toronto. This means they will arrive in the US as domestic passengers, bypassing immigration queues.
Aircraft Configuration and Passenger Experience
Passengers on the new flight will experience Air Canada's first lie-flat business class seat on a narrowbody aircraft. The cabin configuration includes 14 lie-flat pods in a one-by-one layout, with an additional 168 seats in economy for a total capacity of 182 passengers.
The daytime service is positioned as a way to reduce the effects of jet lag. Air Canada last operated a regular daytime service to Europe in 2020. While the airline states this schedule helps passengers sync with local time zones more easily, it acknowledges one drawback is the 'wasted day onboard an airplane.'
Integration and Future Routes
Air Canada is already integrating the A321XLR into its network. The aircraft's first transatlantic flight occurred on June 15 of this year, operating between Montreal and Toulouse.
The London daytripper service is part of broader network developments for Summer 2027 announced by the airline. These include new nonstop services between Toronto, Montreal, and various European points. The carrier also stated it will become the only North American airline to fly to Guangzhou, China, with year-round services from Vancouver starting next May.
The proposed schedule for the new A321XLR Toronto-London service is as follows:
