British Airways has revealed the completed interior design for its refurbished Airbus A380, featuring a reimagined cabin with new First, Club Suite, World Traveller Plus and World Traveller sections. The airline's chairman and CEO, Sean Doyle, stated the carrier has completely reimagined the customer experience, introducing new and updated seats in every cabin to deliver greater comfort.

World's largest business class cabin on the A380 upper deck

The refurbished A380 will feature 106 Club Suite seats across the entire upper deck, forming the world's largest business class cabin currently found on a commercial aircraft. Every passenger in this cabin receives direct aisle access and a private suite with a closing door. Each Club Suite converts into a fully flat bed.

Revised cabin allocation across three decks

The redesign reduces overall capacity while allocating considerably more space to premium cabins. The lower deck now carries three cabins. A new First section with 12 suites is joined by an expanded World Traveller Plus cabin with 84 seats, up from 55 in the existing configuration. World Traveller economy occupies 215 seats on the main deck, a decrease from the previous 303.

Enhanced First and premium economy experiences

The new First suite includes a large enclosed environment, a fully flat bed, a personal wardrobe, and a large 4K entertainment display. The design incorporates a divider that opens to create a shared lounge for centre seats and stowable tables for buddy dining, alongside an ottoman that lets two passengers dine face-to-face. A bespoke mini bar is integrated for access to premium snacks and water.

Specially trained First Service Specialist cabin crew will deliver a new dining experience across the entire long-haul fleet from 1 October. This includes a 'From the Grill' concept with premium proteins, served on contemporary stoneware and fine bone china. The beverage menu features Bollinger La Grande Année Champagne and curated gin selections. Cutlery is designed by Studio William, with wine glasses developed in collaboration with Richard Brendon and Jancis Robinson.

First sleepwear and bedding will be available on all outbound long-haul flights from London Heathrow from the same date. The premium economy section uses a 2-4-2 arrangement and will also receive new amenity kits and refreshed bedding.

Refurbishment programme scale and strategic context

The A380 retrofit programme is extensive. The airline said "more than 35,000 individual parts will be installed on each aircraft as part of the extensive refurbishment." This includes redesigned galleys and stairways. The investment extends beyond the aircraft to London Heathrow Airport Terminal 5, where British Airways is developing a new First Wing and First Lounge to provide a more seamless journey for premium passengers.

This cabin transformation is part of British Airways' ongoing multi-million-pound investment to enhance the onboard experience and modernise its long-haul product. The refurbishment brings onboard products closer to those on newer British Airways widebodies and allows the carrier to extend the aircraft's useful commercial life. The first retrofitted A380 is expected to enter service in the coming months.
